Dick Gabriel on Lisp
Richard Gabriel, is a computer scientist who is an expert on the programming language
LISP, he has degrees in mathematics and artificial intelligence, the best work that he did, is the essay “Lisp: Good News, How to Win Big”. He started his Company called Lucid that also uses Lisp.
In the podcast of Software Engineering Radio, the guest Richard, talks about the characteristics of this programming language Lisp and the history behind Lisp. He mention that lisp has an age of 50 years and was used to créate artificial intelligence, at the beginning the first verions were only of 50 lines of code. He also said that Lisp is a very good programming language in macros. He talked about the data as program/program as data and the history of Mccarthy.
Richard talked about companies that used Lisp, like Yahoo, airlines reservations, IA research, or to produces store fronts and obviously his own company.
In my experience, in the short time that I have been using Lisp, it has been complicated a bit by the syntax that this programming language uses. But it seems quite interesting to me how it works, with each reading, I learned new things about Lisp, which at first became complicated but every time I understand it more.
